Vicugna pacos

I decided to dedicate a blog to the alpaca because it is an animal that I have always wanted to know; besides it looks very peaceful.
The "alpaca" is the common name for Vicugna pacos. Is a species of artiodactyl mammal (are an order of ungulate mammals whose extremities terminate in an even number of fingers of which they support in the ground at least two) of the family Camelidae.
Their domestication has been going on for thousands of years. We can find archaeological remains of the Mochica culture of Peru with representations of alpacas
Thanks to DNA analysis, it was determined that it is much more related to the vicuña than to any other South American camelid, hence the change of its scientific name, of luma pacos, since it was believed to be more related to the llama, to vicugna pacos (the name most actual).
The alpacas weigh between 45 and 77 kg and their height is of 90 cm, surpassed slightly by the vicuña, its ancestor. The height of the alpaca is considerably smaller than that of the llama, comparing with this and the camel the habit of spitting, used to show aggressiveness or as a method of defense.
Is distributed in the “altiplánica region” of the mountain chain of the Andes.
