English language

Hello friends, today I will write  my last blog. When I entered college I did not know much about the English language, at school I had learned only the basics. Starting at level one was the best, I learned new words, the order of these when speaking or writing (grammar), I improved the pronunciation and now I can read and understand things more easily. My favourite activity was sing songs of  “The Beatles”, “Coldplay”, among others.

I remember that in the second level we talked a lot about different topics in class, that helped me a lot to interact with my classmates in English.

The use of blogs started at the third level, at first I did not like them very much because I found it difficult to write correctly, but as we wrote more, I like it was fun to give my opinión or tell my experiencies  about different topics.  Although it always takes me a long time to finish them.

But In general  has been a good experience.

I think I still have a lot to improve, especially  learn more vocabulary and also to speak more fluently. I hope to travel to the United States this summer and learn the language in a compulsory way hahaha.

Right now I do not practice much the language outside the university, but sometimes I watch movies or series in English without the subtitles and I also read texts in English of some subjects and I understand the majority  :D this makes me very happy :D

On holidays I plan to read many comics in English.

Good weekend for all!

Changes to my study programme

Hello friends, today I`m going to tell you about the career that I study, specifically about things that I think are not fine and the changes that I would like to do.

First of all I think that the subjects are well planned, but the contents that must be dealt with are not teached properly, sometimes because are bad planificaded in function of time of class and others becuse the teachers haven good teaching methods. Also I would also like that the subjects are taught every semester so that we do not delay a whole year if we fail.

Regarding the curriculum mesh, I would like a hydrology course to be added to the career, because it's very necessary for professional work in this time of climate change.

I also think that the academic load is a lot, there are many hours of class and added to that are the hours of personal study, perhaps reducing class hours would be a good option, delivering material such as books or research related to each topic.

In relation to the infrastructure of the faculty, it is very necessary to have more classrooms and study rooms, together with a larger and more comfortable library, available at any time.

In relation to the infrastructure of the faculty, it is very necessary to have more classrooms and study rooms, together with a larger and more comfortable library. But it is important that they are well equipped, with computers that work and adequate seats, it would be fun to also have games rooms to recreate and relax.

As for the methods of teaching teachers it would be good to improve them by taking pedagogical courses.

These are some shortcomings among others, which would be good to discuss in community, to improve in all aspects.

Good weekend!

My experience making the herbarium

As I mentioned before in other blogs, I study forestry, and in the first year, that is, last year we were entrusted with the task of making a herbarium for the course of botany. In it, we had to include a total of thirty plants, twenty of native origin and ten of exotic origin.

A herbarium is a collection of dry and classified plants, used as material for the study of botany. It basically consists of three stages, the first is the collection of plants, for that a scissor is used to prune as it is easier to cut a branch of the tree or shrub. The second step is to place the sample between newspapers to absorb the water, the idea is to dry it completely, and then smash, ideally have a press, but I occupied very large and heavy books. Finally, once you are satisfied with the aesthetic and drying results, the last step is to sew them on a piece of cardboard in addition to identifying the specie collected, along with characteristics of where it was taken, such as altitude or region, among others things.

I remember that I collected the majority of the native samples in the central zone of the country, in sectors near the Andes mountain range and also in the region of Valparaiso. For the exotic was very easy, since many trees that are in the city are of exotic origin. I wasted about four months. It was a very fun experience, I enjoyed going to different places with my friends. I can say it's a job that I'm proud of.
This picture shows part of my herbarium and the "Quebrada de Macul" (one of the places where I went to collect)

Postgraduate Studies.

Hello dear readers, today is a day to talk about Postgraduate. When I think about taking a postgraduate course I automatically think that I would like to go abroad, South American countries like Brazil or Argentina and others a little further away like Australia or Germany. Mainly because I consider it important to expand knowledge, to know other cultures, other work strategies and to exchange ideas, among other things; to be a better professional and do a good job.

I am excited to learn about wild areas and nature conservation, which is closely related to what I study, but I am also interested in the forestry and agriculture area, so a master's degree in agronomy would be interesting.

I would like the postgraduate to be part-time because I also want to work simultaneously, but I would prefer not to be online classes.
A big problem is the cost of the course, which are very expensive, at least for me. But I hope I can have a scholarship to fund it.

I feel that there is a lot of time to finish the undergraduate course, but in reality it is only a little over three years (ideally), but I prefer to take things slowly and evaluate all possibilities.

I enjoy studying but I do not like to feel stressed ...
Tell me about your future study plans.

Good week for all!

My future job

Today I`m going to write about a topic that I don`t like a lot…

In general I don`t like to think much about the future, because I think that if I think about what I want to happen, it will not happen or it will happen otherwise. I prefer just live the day to day…

But I'm going to talk about my possibilities, right now I'm studying forestry engineer, so I'd like to work on that. But I would always like to continue studying, to do a postgraduate or something like that. Actually, I do not even know what area I would like to work in, it catches my attention the ecology, in especial ecological restoration. Also I think the physiology of plants is very interesting. So doing research would be a good option.

Resultado de imagen para plantar un arbolTraveling while I working really is fulfilling a dream. But I believe that "inner work" is necessary; there is much to read, to experiment (in the case of working in a laboratory) and to analyze always.

Money is not a great motivation for me, but I would like to have what it takes to live quietly.  My true motivation is to learn in every way, to try to contribute to a world more kinder to nature, to live of it, but to take care of it at the same time. So a job related to that will always be the best option for me.

Independence day

Hello everyone, in this blog I’m going to tell you about my experience on Independence Day.

I don’t have many traditions for that day. I think it’s a time to relax, to visit friends, to travel, to sleep, to watch movies, among other things, generally a mini holidays, since at least considers two days completely free and this year was a week.😀

I don’t like to frequent the "fondas" or places where there are many people, except if there are Chilean musical bands that I like. Also, sometimes, with my parents and siblings we are going to visit our grandparents. My grandmother cooks the richest "empanadas" I've ever tasted and I really eat many. Almost always to drink I drink natural juices or water, alcohol is not for me, although sometimes I drink a little "terremoto" but with much ice cream.

I really like to dance "cueca", but I don’t do it very often. I prefer to see other people dance, like my sister who has won the "cueca" championship twice in her school.

I remember when I was little I liked to rise kites and I do not know why I stopped doing it. But I think that starting this year will be a tradition for me again.😁

Good week for all!💓

A nice vacation

I think the best vacation I have had in my life, was when I traveled to the north of Chile. It was about six or seven years ago and I knew many beaches.

It was a surprise for me, because one day my aunt (my dad's sister) phoned my mom to tell her that she was going on a trip and wanted to invite me. Do not hesitate for a second and I said yes. We were traveling for almost a month, tasted many types of food, especially seafood, and discovered that mango is my favorite fruit. We also visited historical sites, such as the saltpeter offices "Maria Elena" and "Pedro de Valdivia", located in the surroundings of the city of "Tocopilla". Also the “Morro de Arica”, located in the city of the same name, among others.

I remember we were fortunate enough to see a carnival in the city of "Tal-Tal". There were disguised people dancing typical dances, everything was very colorful and cheerful.

In a near future I would like to come back, but knowing more about the history of place and also to go to San Pedro de Atacama and maybe visit Peru and Bolivia.
I want vacations!
